How much does YEL insurance cost?

Your insurance contribution is based on what is known as YEL income. It is the amount you could pay in wages in one year to someone doing the same job. You know best what that amount could be.
The YEL contribution is a certain percentage of the YEL income (in 2022 and 2023 either 24.1% or 25.6% depending on the age of the entrepreneur). The YEL contribution rate is the same for all pension companies. It is set annually by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health. The most important feature of (YEL?) income is that it is based on the value of your work input. However, YEL income has a lower and an upper limit. Both change every year. When your earned income is at least equal to the YEL lower limit, you have the right and the obligation to take out YEL insurance. **In 2025, the lower limit is €9,208.43 and the YEL upper limit €209,124.**YEL insurance limits in 2025
- The lower limit is €9,208.43
- The lower limit for unemployment security is €15,128
- The upper limit is €209,124
The YEL contribution amount is affected by four factors:
1. Age
If you are under 53 or over 62, you pay less than if you are between 53 and 62 during the transitional period 2017-2025. If you are over 53, you pay the increased rate from the beginning of the year following your 53rd birthday until the end of the calendar year in which you turn 63.
2. First time experience
When you become an entrepreneur for the first time, you will receive a starter’s discount.
3. Number of installments
The YEL insurance contribution is cheapest if you pay it in one installment in January. You can also pay the contribution more frequently, for example monthly.
4. Taxation
You can deduct all your YEL contributions in accounting, which will reduce your taxation. As an OP Light Entrepreneur, you can add your YEL contributions to your expenses, which we will take care of in your accounting, and you can see the deduction in your taxes.

When do I have to pay YEL insurance?
The payment installments for YEL insurance can be agreed with your pension insurance company. YEL contributions are not deducted directly from your invoicing, but you will always receive a separate invoice for YEL contributions. In general, you can choose between 1-12 installments per year. YEL contributions become cheaper if you pay them once a year in January. YEL insurance invoices must be paid according to the invoices received (?). For cases regarding YEL invoicing, please contact your YEL insurer.
