Can I send invoices abroad?
This article is meant for OP Light Entrepreneur users with Business ID.
Yes. With the OP Light Entrepreneur service, you can now send invoices abroad and receive income from international customers in EU countries.
You can invoice foreign companies and consumers in EU countries.
The service takes care of Finnish VAT and reporting obligations related to international sales, such as the recapitulative statement to the Finnish Tax Administration.
How does invoicing abroad work?
You can send an invoice directly from the service using the New Invoice function by selecting an international invoice. For an international invoice you:
- select the country of sale
- select whether it is a product or service sale
- indicate whether you are selling to a business or a consumer
- can choose the invoice language (e.g. English)
These details affect VAT treatment and tax returns, so it is important to fill them in carefully.
What if you receive income from abroad without an invoice?
If you receive income from abroad without invoicing (e.g. from platform services), the income is handled as a Sales settlement.
In a Sales Settlement, you report:
- the sales amount in euros
- the country of sale
- whether the sale is a product or service sale
- whether the sale is to a business or a consumer
You receive the income into your own account first and pay only the necessary taxes and fees into the service as part of the Sales settlement. The service takes care of remitting them to the Finnish Tax Administration on your behalf.
