I already have a Business ID, can I still use the service?

Updated on: 20.10.2026

You can join OP Light Entrepreneur even if you already have a Business ID as a sole trader (toiminimi). When you identify yourself during registration, we receive information about your Business ID automatically, so you don't need to select anything separately. Before we open the service for you, we make sure the service is suitable for you.

How to join with an existing Business ID

  1. Register and identify yourself with your online banking ID. We receive information about your Business ID automatically.
  2. Give us a Suomi.fi mandate.
  3. Complete your business details. For example, tell us about this year's sales and purchases, any tax debt and your industry. If you have bookkeeping documents, such as an income statement, a balance sheet or sales invoices, attach them to the form.
  4. Our accountants check the details and, if needed, apply for registrations for your Business ID. We may also ask you for more information.

When can you join?

  • You haven't made any sales and your business has no balance sheet: You can join.
  • You have made sales without VAT and you are not in the VAT register: You can join if you report this year's sales in the service using Sales settlement.
  • You have made sales with VAT and your VAT period is a calendar year: You can join if you report this year's sales in the service using Sales settlement. This way, the whole year's bookkeeping is in one place and we can file your tax returns correctly.
  • You have made sales with VAT and your VAT period is a month or a quarter: You can join once we have recorded this year's sales in the service. We will guide you through this. However, you remain responsible for the VAT returns of VAT periods that have already ended.
  • Your business has a balance sheet or assets: We will look at your situation case by case. Not all balance sheet items prevent you from joining.

Please note: The service uses single-entry bookkeeping. This means we don't prepare a balance sheet or financial statements for your business. Instead, we file the business tax return for you, as well as VAT returns if you are in the VAT register. If your business has significant assets on its balance sheet, or a balance sheet is essential for your business, your business requires double-entry bookkeeping and you unfortunately can't join the service.

Good to know

VAT register and prepayment register

Being in the prepayment register is a requirement for using the service. If your Business ID is not in the prepayment register, we will apply for it on your behalf.

You can decide yourself whether to join the VAT register. However, you must join the VAT register if your sales exceed €20,000 in a calendar year.

The Finnish Tax Administration may not accept your Business ID into the registers if you have neglected to report or pay taxes. If your Business ID is not added to the prepayment register, we can't open the service for you.

Tax debt

If you or your business has tax debt, the taxes paid through the service may be allocated to your oldest tax debts. In that case, newer taxes, such as VAT and prepayments, remain unpaid unless you pay them yourself. You can apply for a payment plan for the new tax debt from the Finnish Tax Administration.

Name registered in the Trade Register

If you have registered a trade name in the Trade Register, your company name stays the same. Add the name as your marketing name on the Contact details page so that it appears on your invoices. A name registered in the Trade Register must be shown on invoices.

If you have used the service before

Log in to the service and select Reactivate the service. Fill in your business details on the form. If your business has a balance sheet or long-term fixed assets, attach the related documents as a pdf file (max. 10 MB).

  • You need a valid Suomi.fi mandate.
  • You can submit the form once per calendar year. If your situation changes after that, please contact our chat customer service.
  • If your Business ID is not in the registers, we will apply for the prepayment register and, if you wish, the VAT register. Processing takes at least a couple of weeks.
  • The Finnish Tax Administration may send you a request for clarification before adding your Business ID to the registers. Follow MyTax (OmaVero) and reply to any requests as soon as possible.
  • If you have invoiced outside the service this year, we will ask you to report those sales in the service. We may also ask you for bookkeeping documents, such as an income statement or sales invoices.

You will receive an email when we have opened your user account.

When can't you reactivate the service?

Your application will be rejected if

  • your Suomi.fi mandate is not valid
  • you have already reported this year's sales in a VAT return
  • you don't want to report this year's sales made outside the service in the service
  • the Finnish Tax Administration doesn't add your Business ID to the registers within six weeks
  • your business has a balance sheet or fixed assets that prevent you from using the service
  • your business is not suitable for the service.

You can see the reasons for the rejection when you log in to the service. If your situation changes, for example if your Business ID is added to the registers later, please contact our chat customer service. We can process your application again.

If your application is rejected, you are responsible for the tax returns of your Business ID yourself. This also applies if the Finnish Tax Administration adds your Business ID to the registers later.

If your Business ID has been closed

If you have closed your Business ID, you join the service as a new entrepreneur. The Finnish Tax Administration's processing time is then about six weeks, and during that time the Business Information System (YTJ) may still show that your business has ended. Your register entries and business start date will, however, be updated retroactively to the day you registered with the service.
